It all began in April 2022, when at the age of 40, Fleur Sauvage founder, Maria Confer was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the following 8 months, Maria faced a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, a total hysterectomy, and her first of three reconstruction surgeries. During her darkest days, she was gifted a gorgeous luxury scarf to wear during hair loss. That generous gift sparked joy by giving her the ability to feel beautiful and chic at a time when she felt anything but. 

Fast forward months later while healing post hysterectomy when Maria was inspired, by her amazingly artistic nine year old son, to start drawing again. As her drawings emerged it became clear that what she was creating would translate beautifully into silk scarves. This epiphany galvanized Maria to keep drawing. What better way to heal from the trauma of cancer than to create what gave her so much joy and to use those creations to raise money for breast cancer charities.

With a new mission in mind, Maria sought out the best sustainable silk printers, finding her match in England. Each Fleur Sauvage scarf is GOTS certified, slow made in small batches, with the highest attention to details, like hand-rolled hems. With the focus on sustainability, every piece of packaging is either reusable or made from recycled and compostable materials.

Fleur Sauvage launched its first silk scarf collection in June 2023 with a fresh take on classic designs, many of which have already become bestsellers.

Maria divides her time between homeschooling her son, creating for Fleur Sauvage, navigating her newfound state of menopause, and traveling the world for future scarf design inspiration.
